Become an escape worker with SchoolRallye

You will start your day at the Weinbergspark near Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin. This is where our digital scavenger hunt “Spy and Escape at the Berlin Wall” begins, which was designed by history teachers and screenwriters specifically for school classes. During this puzzle tour, students are divided into small groups of three to four people, and they receive an access code with which they can start the rally on their mobile phone. The groups start every 1 minute and the teachers can either  take part in the game with a free access code, or they can take a break until their students arrive at their destination and wait for them there.

What is it about?

‍

The SchoolRallye itself is then about using puzzles and clues to crack codes, identify fake paintings, track down dead mailboxes and run away from Stasi spies. What is it all for? Well, to help your friend, art dealer Siegfried Kath, escape to the West. The story is based on a true story and picks up important facts from a time when Germany was still divided and a thick wall separated friends and family.

Scavenger hunt done?

‍

After about one and a half to two hours, the groups then reach their destination: the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße. Here, teachers can welcome their class again and evaluate the scavenger hunt. In addition to some quiz questions that can be asked at the end of the tour, you can also have an award ceremony and award the winners of the scavenger hunt.

What is it about?

At the Berlin Wall Memorial, everything revolves around Bernauer Straße between 1961 and 1989 and the associated stories of divided Berlin, flight and everyday life in the GDR. Guided tours, eyewitness talks, workshops, lectures and much more are offered here for school classes, which enable a differentiated examination of the reality of life on the Berlin Wall.

Guided tours

‍

On the guided tour “Bernauer Straße nach dem Mauerbau”, you will learn more about the construction of the Berlin Wall and what effects it had on everyday life and the lives of people in East and West Berlin. It takes about an hour and is free of charge for students, while adults pay €3.50 per person.

The tour “Haunted Stations in Divided Berlin” tells you about the creation of abandoned stations, which many S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations became as a result of the construction of the Wall, and you will even visit a former pedestrian tunnel at the end. The tour lasts around one and a half hours, is free of charge for students, and costs 5 € per person for adults.

Eyewitness talks, workshops & projects

The workshop “Searching for Photographic Clues” deals visually with the history of Bernauer Straße. With the help of cameras and historical photos, students learn more about the consequences of the division of Berlin and the construction of the wall. At the end, the photos are discussed and evaluated together. The workshop lasts around 3 hours and is free of charge.

The interviews with eyewitnesses vary depending on the topic and cover various areas related to the history of division. This includes, for example, everyday life on Bernauer Straße in the 1950s and 1960s, escape and escape assistance, imprisonment experiences and life in the border area. The whole process takes around 3 hours, including a 15-minute break, and is free of charge for students. Adults pay 5 € per person here.
